Imagine the fear you will strike into the hearts of your enemies as you charge in with 8 flamingos.

1 Player with a pet
1 Ranger with a pet
2 Rits with spirits and pets
2 MMs with MoP, barbs and pets
2 Monks with pets
20 minions, 10 spirits, 8 pets and 8 player will surely make for an impressive sight. It will be outperformed for sure, but if "lolz" is what you mainly strive for then I believe that this team build will have sufficient firepower.
The recharge caused by a death of a pet may make it impossible though. It could lead to a wipe if it happens to the two monks simultaneously.

Asura summon on all human players could add 1-8 more flesh shields.

My guild used to do this on codex whenever barbs was available.
The key is having barbs and mark of pain. Spears attack the fastest to trigger hexes so use a spear/shield set instead of wanding.

If you really want to make it as useful as possible, consider taking Call of Protection and/or Otyugh's Cry with at least 8-10 in beast mastery. That might keep your pets from dying less often and reduce the skill bar recharge. Then again, that would even further reduce your heros effectiveness.
The most pets I could realistically see having a chance in most situations would be about 4. Your Ranger's pet and 3 Ranger/Beastmaster Heros. That way you would still have 4 heros left for support and caster damage. Although, that could be used for an MM and spirit spammers for more "pets". Won't be the most spectacular DPS machine, but it would be fun to watch.

Heros will heal your pets.
They'll only die if you're horrible and/or over aggro.
If you're playing an area with large AoE damage it isn't viable anyway.

i have done a petway before
theres a couple of big issues with pets, or used tobe
hero pets get stuck on npcs sometimes
wont engage until hero attacks, so for a caster thats wanding...
skills wise
scavenger strike is reasonable e management for points invested
feral lunge (bleeding)/pison bite for warrior/conditions. poison tipped signet might be better
winnowing (ws) +4 physical damage, so equip casters with spear with some phsyical spear tip, and a offhand
healing ribbon is a synerginistic monk spell for this setup

Rangers are the only one's that need pets. I used to run Barbs(/Mop) + 3 Ranger Heroes back before Barbs was even +16 (it was +12) and it worked great. Anything more and it became a hassle. If you want more pets, use Spirit Spammers and a Minion Master to maintain efficiency.
Edit: To be honest, the only time more pets is a good idea is Ruins of Morah. You can down Varesh in a minute flat with a buddy.

dervish hero/pet build
OgKkYhp7KymUzF0lFYA261117FtB
its more team useful pet wise rather than a self contained thing
emeraties, victorious sweep, aura slicer, wearing strike, armour of sanctity aura of thorns avatar of dwyana comfort animal
14 sythe, 9 earth, 10 mystism 8 beast (juggle those around as you wish)
the conditions will help with scavenger strike on the other heros, dwyana heals allies, so that will include pets and minions...
i think theres better skill combos, but im tired now xD
